The village of Alcaucin lies on the western slopes of Mount Maroma in the sierra Tejada, 54 kilometres from Málaga and 20 kilometres from Vélez Málaga. It stands at a height of 510 metres above sea level and has a population of around 1,500. The municiple area contains the sulpherous water springs of Las Majadas and the Sierra Alcázar Nature Reserve. The village is situated in an area of outstanding beauty and near to the border with Granada Province.
