Alfarnatejo is surrounded by mountains, the highest being Mount Chamizo to the west and El Gallo to the east. The village itself lies at a height of 858 metres and has a population of around 500 people. Neolithic remains were discovered nearby in the Pass of the River Sabar. The area is renowned for its outstanding scenery. The village is 50 kilometres from Malaga and 37 kilometres from Velez-Malaga.
