The village of Archez is situated on the foothills of the Sierra Almijara at a height of 435metres above sea level. It is 51 kilometres from Malaga and 21 kilometres from Velez Malaga and has a population of just over 400 inhabitants.The Parish church of Nuestra Senora de la Encarnacion is a 16th century Mudejar building, whilst next to the church is the minaret of a former mosque. This artistic jewel is one of the outstanding mouments of La Axarquia.
