Salares lies in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara at a height of 579 metres in a green mountainous region where rich wine and fine olives are produced. The village is 58 kilometres from Málaga and 28 kilometres from Vélez Málaga. It has a population of some 400 inhabitants. Its steep winding streets are closed to traffic, combining peace and silence with the beauty of the village.
