The village of Viñuela is situated 14 kilometres north of Vélez Málaga and 45 kilometres from Málaga at a height of 131 metres above sea level. Its population is just under 2,000 people. The village is more modern than many in the Axarquia, having been founded in the 18th century and has all the usual facilities required for modern day living such as banks, supermarkets, schools, health centre etc. Near to the village lies Lake Viñuela.
