Over 3m euros for Axarquia spruce up!
The region has received more than three million euros for the enhancement of tourism resources which includes 50 initiatives designed to raise the appeal of the towns in the area. Among the most expensive at almost half a million euros is the developement of the proposed visitor centre in La Viñuela. Other major initiatives include: the design and development of an informaiton system and digital mapping routes, resources and tourism services in the county, the thematic equipment of the honey museum in Colmenar, the implementation of the Baths of Vilo de Periana, The Galvez Museum in Macharaviaya and the Morisco de Sayalonga Museum will be expanded. The Monfi Museum project in Cútar will go ahead. Several areas will be refurbished including the recreational areas of El Alcázar and El Rio in Alcaucin, the San Jacinto Church, the Galvez Mausoleum in Macharaviaya and the Casa Natal de Salvador Rueda in Benaque. There will also be a virtual tour reconstructing the historic fortifications of the region including the castles of Alcaucin, Arenas and Comares and the publication of a guide for the development and creation of souvenirs, another on urban landscape and nature as well as a recipe book of local cuisine.
